To all Lumberton ISD Parents and Guardians concerning COVID-19 Virus

Lumberton ISD,

After several meetings and discussions, Lumberton ISD will continue with school as planned to further assess the COVID-19 situation and discuss alternative methods for educating our students during a school closure. We will address this on a day-by-day basis. Hardin, Jefferson, Tyler, Liberty and Orange counties do not have any confirmed or presumptive cases of the COVID-19 virus at the moment; however, we understand this can change rapidly. If you feel you must keep your children at home due to a compromised immune system, being medically fragile, fear of exposure, or exhibiting sickness in general please complete the form by clicking this link to inform the school of the absence: https://forms.gle/7jLnTyV3aFS5DYMd8.

If you are unable to complete this form electronically, please contact your campus attendance office by email or phone to inform of the absence. Email links and phone numbers can be found on each campus website. The student’s absence will be excused according to guidelines set forth by the Texas Education Agency. Further information will be provided to you for securing instructional materials during this absence period. Additionally, the district will suspend any concerns for perfect attendance while facing this public health crisis.

Lumberton ISD is asking the community to follow CDC recommendations for self-quarantine if you exhibit symptoms or believe you have been in contact with an infected person. After seeking medical assistance, please notify your campus nurse as well.
If the district must choose to close, parents and guardians need to understand the duration could be for an extended time (possibly up to 8 weeks). A long-term school closure creates difficult situations for parents and their work schedules. It is important we all plan ahead.

As always, please ensure taking preventive measures for spreading the virus:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

I would like to thank our maintenance and custodial staff for working diligently this week continuing with our process of disinfecting all buildings, playgrounds and buses with Virex II chemicals.
